math facts and water bottles

Hello families,

Just a reminder with the change in weather and because it's getting warmer to send your child with a water bottle. Many children are not coming to school with one and the water fountains are not working during Covid. However, the water bottle filling stations are open.

Also, the last couple of weeks we have been reviewing skills that should be mastered by the end of second grade. It is important for kids to know their addition and subtraction facts fluently within 20 (using mental strategies). Please practice at home so that your student can answer within 3 seconds of you asking them an equation. You can practice with flash cards, dominoes, a regular deck of cards, or any other creative way you can think of. Students should also be able to fluently add and subtract within 100 using strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction. We have been practicing many of these different strategies at school (number line, stacking, splitting, base ten blocks, traditional algorithm).

Thanks and reach out if you have any questions.
