Field Day

May 19th, 2023

Yep, Yep! It’s that time of year. As we’re lining up our activities and organizing logistics (we're hurting for 3-5 family volunteers), I wanted to take a quick moment just to provide an overview on what to expect.

PHILOSOPHY: In short, the day is intended to be a beacon of community engagement and an opportunity for all to discover a love for movement outdoors. Our aim will be to focus on positive, kind, and compassionate communication between students, healthy reactions to both success and adversity, and the inherent joy that exists when we come together as one to participate in physical activity!

Additionally, we’ll continue our work around TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More). While our games are designed to be fun, inclusive, and have an element of friendly competition, they’re primarily intended to facilitate the idea of working together within a group to achieve a common goal. We consistently talk about what it means to be a compassionate competitor, one who commits to their personal best while acknowledging the courage it takes for all to show up. Lifting and supporting all through our actions and words will remain a cornerstone to every event.

LOGISTICS: All Field Day events (a mix of traditional and borderline ridiculous games) are held on the C3 field and will be overseen by our wonderful volunteers. In an effort to keep things manageable, K-2 will partake in our morning session while 3-5 will hit the field in the afternoon. Each homeroom will be given a predetermined station to begin at, and each event will last for 10 minutes with a 1 minute transition. We will attempt to have music playing throughout the event. Every time the music stops, the students will hear two whistles. This will be their cue to return order to their station and rotate. Each group will rotate counterclockwise and move up by one station upon hearing the rotation cue. Teachers will be asked to travel from station to station with their class to ensure that the students are following instructions, being respectful, and most important, having fun! A schedule and station assignments will be provided the day of.

Lastly, it is highly encouraged that students come prepared for a day filled with outdoor activities. Consider appropriate clothing/shoes, sunscreen, water, and perhaps an extra set of clothes if things get a little wet during our water relay!
