Updates

Good Afternoon! 

I know this week was extremely crazy, but we made it through! I am so proud of my students, and had nothing but good things said about them by Andrea (our Librarian and the substitute this week). Here are some updates (I'll try to keep it brief and to the point). REMEMBER NO SCHOOL MONDAY OR TUESDAY NEXT WEEK.

• Social Studies: We are continuing to learn about Ute tribes and the impact of New settlers on society. We are looking at the cause and effect of the treaties between the Ute and the US government. 
• Math: We are finishing up Unit 4 (adding and subtracting Multi-digit numbers using the U.S. Standard Algorithm and other strategies: standard: 4.NBT.4). We will take the Unit 4 test Tuesday, Feb 26th. I will send home a study packet next Friday like I did before. Next week we are looking at subtraction strategies and the standard algorithm.
•  Writing: We are focusing on writing from another characters perspective. We read "Voice in the Park" and talked about the different voices and their perspective of that day at the park (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPqvPL36PfI). The students are using the events that happen in all mini-stories and writing through Victoria or Albert's perspective. They will share this on Thursday.
• Reading/ELA: We just finished chapters 1-4 and took a quiz on chapter 4 where they answered text dependent questions. I am looking for them to use text evidence in their responses (ask them about our acronym RACE). They use RACE to help them write a strong response.
  • R=restate question
  • A= answer
  • C= cite evidence (in the text... on page __...)
  • E=explanation (this shows that... this proves that...). 
• I am working with the students in small groups to review inference skills and theme. We are working with non-fiction texts to practice the skills.
