Notes from the Dragon Cave

FROM THE DESK OF SCHUBA...

Dear Izzi B. Family and Friends,
Our new school-wide Second Step Unit 5 theme is Problem-Solving and Friendship Skills. In our morning announcements and school assembly, we’ll remind students to invite others to play, play fairly with one another, take responsibility for mistakes by making amends, and how to handle name-calling assertively. These skills help students make and keep friends, as well as eliminate bullying.

I’m providing Second Step Home Links on both of these topics, along with fun activities to do with your child to help him or her learn and practice the skills.
Please speak with your child’s teacher if you have questions about helping your child to learn these skills.

Fondly,
Schuba

Teacher Appreciation: Conference Meals
Each year, we provide food to our wonderful IBCS Staff during Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences. We are working together to deliver meals to the Teacher's Lounge on Monday, March 4 and Tuesday, March 5. We hope to provide enough food for around 70 people (all staff!), including vegetarian and gluten-free options for each day. We'll use Staff Appreciation/Classroom Liaison funds to purchase majority of the food, but we're soliciting donations for main dish items, too. The sign-up below will help to provide additional goodies and sides to round out our meals each day. Thank you in advance for your help! Our staff really appreciate it, and they deserve it! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0544AFAF2EA2FB6-staff1

AUCTION 2019 - FRIDAY, MARCH 15!
Just three weeks away and GREAT BIG GOALS to achieve. These goals are OUR goals, for OUR school and OUR students. Let's CRUSH them together! The success of this fabulously fun "80's Night Out" will determine what priorities the IBCS Council can fund for our school and our students next year. Get your tickets today at www.izzibauction.com to join your fellow IBCS parents and other supporters to make this a night to remember! Your ticket includes dinner, drinks, live music, dancing (optional, but encouraged!) and your exclusive bidder number for an EPIC silent/live auction. 100 percent of proceeds from the night go to the IBCS Council "Feed The Dragon" fund.

WHAT'S GOING ON WITH...

Another Scholastic Book Fair Less Than TWO Weeks Away!
Join us in the Library (2nd Floor, Room 215) for a DINO-MITE Book Fair during Izzi B. Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences!

Book Fair Hours:
Monday, March 4: 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 5: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The Library will be filled with books and gifts of all reading levels for families to purchase and add to their own collections at home. The Library receives nearly 60 percent of proceeds and are used to purchase new Scholastic books for our still growing book collection! Last year, the Library raised more than $10,000 from both book fairs for new books. Last fall, we broke a record amount of sales at $9,000 and are on track to see another $10,000 in additional books for our library AGAIN! Woohoo! Everybody loves new books and more great reads!

Our Scholastic Book Fairs are run by Izzi B. community volunteers of all ages. The event is family-friendly and a great way to volunteer at a fun event with your children. Please consider signing up for a shift during the two days and bring the family along! We also have dedicated volunteer spots for our Fourth and Fifth students and an adult chaperone. All adult and 4th/5th grade volunteers receive a $5 gift certificate to be used on any purchase at our book fair. Sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0b4caaac22a3f58-spring.

Unable to Attend the Book Fair?
Bummer! You will be missed during all the fun. You can still order books and gifts through our Online Book Fair! Beyond having a larger selection than what can fit into our library, prices are the same and shipping to the school is FREE! Still about 60 percent of sales go toward helping our library grow as well. The Izzi B. ONLINE book fair is happening now until Wednesday, March 6. Purchase books at
