Class/ CMAS Update
Hello All!
I really appreciate getting to see you all and seeing your child explain what we've been doing in class as well as goals they have set for themselves. I have some important updates about CMAS that is coming up.
The CMAS dates are April 3,4,5, 9,10,11,16,17,18. Please make sure your student is present for each testing date, it is imperative that they are here on time every day. I have uploaded links on Schoology for Math and ELA that has practice tests that your child can take on their computer at home. We will be practicing in class as well (to really help them understand the set-up, way things are worded, and tools so that won't be a factor in their score). If you click on this link: https://parcc.pearson.com/practice-tests/ it has ELA and Math practice tests (that I also uploaded on Schoology). It also has answers. If you click on the practice test and unit, you just sign in as Guest.
In Math we will be working on division, multiplication, and adding/subtracting fractions with unlike denominators. I will have math tasks for them to complete that integrate multiple steps for division or multiplication where they can use the area model, or a strategy that works for them (we have discussed many different strategies in class). I will be showing them the 4-square model for adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators. I will upload a picture of this so you can help them at home! I will be sending home math problems for them that they can complete at home for extra practice (or they can use the Parcc practice questions that I previously mentioned).
In ELA we will continue reading the Hope Chest and discovering the theme and main idea in the chapters. We will also work on reading paired texts and looking at similarities and differences to write a compare and contrast essay. I will also send home some readings with comprehension questions that your student can practice, or they can practice the practice tests from the previous link.
In Writing we will be focusing on writing a historical narrative. We will watch a video about a day in the life of a Ute and they will take that, along with their learning from our unit, and write a historical narrative from the perspective of a Ute including as much historical background, dialogue, and setting.
Let me know if you have any questions!
