Spelling Words
Hello dear families,
This week's spelling words are: sister, monster, thunder, number, girl, bird, birthday, curl, burst, nurse
A little background on the /er/ sound: er is the most common spelling for words with the /er/ sound, and especially if the /er/ sound comes at the end of the word. ir is the second most common spelling, with ur following in third place. Therefore, when making an educated guess, er would be the best choice.
For practicing these words, have your child practice them in groups: all the er together, all the ir together and all the ur together...perhaps using a different color for each category. For the spelling test, I will start with er words, then ir words, and then ur words.
