Hi All,
I hope you are having a great long weekend! We have lots going on in these last few weeks of school. I cannot believe the school year is wrapping up already! I have lots of announcements this week—please read!
Lauren is out: I will not be at school tomorrow because I am at a training for culturally-responsive teaching. I completely forgot to tell the students I will be gone so please let them know!
Poetry celebration video: Here is the link to watch the performance! https://youtu.be/3aiY7riSFx8
Reading: Students are working on inferring from texts. We started with making inferences from photographs and now students are using evidence from the text to make inferences.
Writing: We have been working on our opinion and persuasive writing pieces. Students started with playing a “Would you Rather” game and wrote an essay to their accountable talk partner to persuade them of their opinions. Then we did a candy taste test and many of the students said it was the best day of school because I gave them candy! We mindfully ate three types of candy and wrote adjectives using our 5 senses to describe the candy. Throughout this process, we also learned about the difference between fact and opinion—this is a great thing to ask your child about! We are going to continue working on these essays to try to persuade others why their selected candy is the best!
Math: We will be taking a post-assessment in on unit 6 this week on properties of shapes. We are also going back to ensure students can tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes. This is a great thing to practice at home anytime you see an analog clock.
Passion Project celebration: Your child has been working hard to explore a passion or curiosity of their choice. Every Friday, students have been researching their interests and learned how to effectively take notes on their research. They are now working to create a presentation/display of their learning. We are going to share their projects on May 20th at 2:15pm. We hope you can make it!
Have a great week!
Lauren
