Classroom Update (5/7/19)
Hello all!
I hope everyone has had a restful 3-day weekend. Here is a preview of lessons being taught in our classroom next week:
Writing –Last week, we launched our opinion writing unit. We began the unit by writing an essay about our favorite candy. We spent the week learning the structure of opinion writing and discussing the difference between an opinion and a fact. This week, we will continue writing our candy essay and begin our final essay. The prompt for their final essay is “Why should your 3rd grade teacher be excited to have you in their class next year?”
Reading – This week, we will examine opinion articles by looking at the structure and overall evidence provided to support the author’s opinion. The main article we will be reading is “Should E-Sports be Considered a Sport?” To support your child, discuss both sides of the argument at home!
Math – This week, we will wrap up our geometry unit and practice multiple subtraction strategies. We will end the week by taking a post-assessment.
Science – Last week, we learned that water is a source of erosion. We completed an experiment that showed water can carve into the land like a canyon. This week, students compare multiple solutions for preventing erosion. In the activity, they design and test ways to keep water from washing away a hill modeled out of cornmeal.
