Cerebral Palsy Day

Cerebral Palsy Day

I share this with the permission of Blake and her family...

Yesterday was World Cerebral Palsy Day. Blake approached me a couple of weeks ago to ask if she could present something to our class...I enthusiastically said yes! Today was that day. Blake bravely and proudly stood in front of the entire class and shared about Cerebral Palsy and how it affects her daily life. She then asked the class to color in a coloring page in green (to show support of World Cerebral Palsy Day) and write a sentence "Today I choose to be _____."  She asked them to complete this task using their opposite writing hand!! The students jumped on it and were engaged, many stating how hard it was. Each student persevered through the task and Blake explained that this task was to show them what someone with Cerebral Palsy often goes through. It was a beautiful presentation and everyone was so respectful and participated well.

So I wanted to share this moment with you all so you can see how brave and wonderful Blake is and how respectful and thoughtful the rest of the class was. This also goes along so well with our 3rd grade word of perspective and connects to our Literacy theme of overcoming challenges, and all the students in class this morning got to see how to overcome a challenge and see how others have to overcome their own challenges, both visible and invisible.

Thank you so much!!!
