Arts Week Artists Details

Happy Friday IBCS Families!

Hope everyone is looking forward to a three day weekend! With Arts Week starting on Tuesday, I wanted to send a brief description to families including the FOUR local artists who will be working with our student artists next week. Below is a description with an attachment with a few images. In addition to artists information, we need volunteers to help artists and LADDERS! If you have a reliable ladder (kiddos will be using them as well, with supervision) please consider bringing it in next week. If you can volunteer with an artists, Tuesday or Wednesday, we would be grateful. Email Morgan at morgan_cofer@dpsk12.org for more information.

ARTISTS:

Olive Moya (3rd grade)

Olive Moya will be working closely with our 3rd grade artists to create a mural incorporating the Dragon dispositions (brave, empathetic, joyful, respectful, innovative, and tenacious.) While working in groups, third graders will create a color using color mixing techniques that represents each dragon disposition. Artists will then get to paint their created color directly onto the hallway wall leading from the library to the 3rd/4th grade pod. Olive will help students with color mixing, instruct them on how to paint on a wall, and answer questions from students about being a working artist! We are lucky to have her wisdom and vision coloring the walls of IBCS!

Jennifer Ghormley (4th grade)

Jennifer Ghormley is a local artist who worked with 4th grade artists earlier in the spring to create a permanent installation piece between the 5th grade pod and the 3rd/4th grade pod. Jennifer taught students how to create a screen print using basic patterns, how to print on paper using a screen and ink, and how to create 3d abstract forms with paper by sowing a corner of the paper forms. These paper sculptures created by 4th grade artists will be hung from wire at different lengths and will be able to move and sway as student walk underneath them!

Carmen Richards (2nd grade)

Carmen Richards is a local Denver artist who will be working with 2nd grade artists to create a mural of Isabella Bird between the 1st/2nd grade pod and the kindergarten pod. Carmen will be creating a portrait of Isabella Bird and 2nd grade artists will draw a their own self-portrait using paint pens which will surround the portrait of Isabella Bird.

Anne-Elizabeth (Kinder, 1st, 5th grade)

Anne-Elizabeth has worked with serval other schools and non-profits that work with children to create science-based murals within the Denver area. AE will be working with our Kinder, 1st, and 5th grade artists to create two coral reef murals on each floor of our school. Kinder will help with the coral reef using sponges, 1st will add coral and start adding marine life with stencils, and 5th will add in the more detailed animals and coral life to the murals.

Looking forward to seeing what our IBCS artists and Denver working artists create next week!!!!
