Autism Acceptance Month

Autism Acceptance Month

Dear Dragon community,

The month of April is Autism Acceptance Month. Throughout April, we celebrate and uplift the achievements of neurodiverse people everywhere and champion the equal rights and dignity of all those living on the autism spectrum. Autism acceptance means recognizing the ways ableism and racism interact in our society. The overlap between these communities is significant. Autism acceptance is about inclusion, support and diversity. The focus this month is to advocate for acceptance, support, and to promote a positive perception of autistic individuals. We also also want to highlight the contributions of autistic people throughout the world.

Did you know....

Autism means alone. The word “autism” is derived from the Greek word “autos” meaning self. The literal meaning of Autism is “alone.”

According to the latest statistics, 1 out of 44 children in the United States is on the autism spectrum.

The key mission of Autism Acceptance Month is to foster acceptance and kindness towards the autistic community. See this wonderful list of books here.

As a community, we strive to provide a warm, inclusive school culture where we uplift one another and where all of our students feel a sense of belonging and connection.

Thank you for your continued support of our incredible school.

Warmly,

Principal Mercer
