Balarat weather reminders
Balarat Reminders 10/7/19
In light of the cold weather coming Thursday, please dress your kids as if they are going sledding. See the note at the bottom for how adults are preparing as well if it helps.
- We have buildings all over the site, so we really are never more than a 5-10 minute walk from shelter. All of our "out" buildings have wood stoves, & on a day like Thursday we will get fires going in all of the buildings to generate heat.
- Layers, layers, & more layers - double socks, double pants (tights, leggings, long johns, long underwear, long PJ bottoms, etc., can be worn under pants or jeans), hats, gloves, winter coats.
- Yes, Thursday will be cold, but please keep in mind we do our programming even when it is below zero - Dec, Jan, Feb, through snow days and "bomb cyclones". Our staff are outdoor education professionals, going on 50+ years of experience with Denver Public Schools. We always take the weather into consideration and we will not over-expose the students.
- From about 4:30pm on, we are inside the lodges which all have functioning heat. Dorms are kept warm and toasty for sleeping.
- We can modify activities as needed depending on weather.
Adults plan to wear snow pants over leggings, multiple layers on top, as well as winter coats and gloves (with knit ones in our backpacks), and a knit cap (with an extra in our backpacks). We will be wearing snow boots as well.
**Cabins are heated, so a large blanket or regular sleeping bag are fine - please let us know if you need an assist with this.
Thanks! We’re excited!
Michele, Cynthia, Kate, Pete, Ryan, and Jon
