Classroom Update (3/10/19)
Hello all!
I hope everyone has had a restful weekend. Here is a quick preview of learning within our classroom next week:
Math - We will learn that larger denominations of money are composed of smaller amounts. We will compose amounts of money using different types of coins and dollars. We will also use money to practice double digit addition and subtraction.
Writing - We will continue working on poetry. This week, we will use rhyming words, figurative language, stanzas, and line breaks to add musicality to our poems. During word work, we will review previously learned vowel teams and learn new suffixes (-ive, -ative, - itive, -able, -ible).
Reading - We will continue practicing fluency. We will also identify the main topic of mulitparagraph texts while discovering the main focus of each supporting paragraph.
Science - We will begin our new science unit about erosion and the Earth’s surface. This unit helps students develop the idea that water is a powerful force that reshapes the earth’s surface. Students see that water isn’t just something we drink. It carries sand to create beaches, carves out canyons and valleys and, as ice, scrapes entire areas flat.
Tuesday - I will not be at school on Tuesday due to doctor’s appointments. We will have a guest teacher on Tuesday. Please speak with your child about how they can best support our classroom and guest teacher while I am gone. They’ve done well in the past, but a reminder of great behaviors will always help!
Thank you!
