Notes from the Dragon Cave
FROM THE DESK OF SCHUBA...
Dear Isabella Bird Community School,
I continue to be astonished by our resilient, hospitable and devoted IBCS Community. Last week, the IBCS Culture and Diversity Team hosted a Dinner & Diversity event to unite our community over a topic near and dear to our hearts - RACE. Students from "YALL" made a huge impact on parents and teachers who attended. Positive sentiment and an overwhelming sense of appreciation expressed about the event illustrates our community's acute hunger to learn more and create a better learning experience for all IBCS students.
Next school year, we will work to create learning experiences both inside and outside of school for our students, parents and teachers.
Thank you to our entire Equity Team for devoting time, energy and resources to make this event and powerful learning opportunity a reality.
Fondly,
Schuba
Speed Control Near IBCS

Field Day
Izzi B’s Fifth Annual Field Day is Thursday, May 30. The day will feature events such as Shoe Scramble, Obstacle Course, Sponge Relay, Parachute, Egg Race, Balloon Pop, Water Hurdles, Sidewalk Chalk and Popsicles. Because water is included with some of the events, students may wear their swimsuits; however, they must have clothes over them. We’d like to see as students as possible wear their Izzi B. shirts. Students can also bring a change of clothes for after the events. All students must wear tennis shoes. Please send your children to school with filled water bottles to ensure they stay hydrated throughout the day; water refill stations will be available. Children should also come to school with sunscreen already applied.
To help make the event a success, we need parent volunteers who can help run and support some of the stations. If you are interested in volunteering, please let Gym Teacher, Kevin Ross, know your availability.
DPS will provide a grilled lunch for Field Day. Please complete the Field Day flier sent home with your child(ren) and return it to school no later than Friday, May 10. We will not be able to take orders past this date. Adults are invited to enjoy the grilled lunch, as well. The cost is $4 per adult. You can pay with cash or check at the register at the time of purchase, but we need an advance count on how many will join us.
