Dear Isabella Bird Community School Families:

It is our priority to keep you informed of incidents related to student safety. This letter is to let you know that we received a report that one of our students brought a knife from home on the bus this morning. Administration immediately recovered the weapon. Denver Police are investigating this matter. The student will face consequences. Due to privacy, we are unable to share any information about the student at this time.

Please know that all students and staff at Isabella Bird campus are safe. I would like to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students is our number one priority. In order to maintain a safe environment, it is critical that students feel comfortable reporting to the appropriate adults if they see a weapon on our campus. I met with each grade level to discuss school safety and expected behavior tailored to their age and grade level.

As a reminder to all students, it is never OK to bring weapons of any kind – real or fake – onto school property. Please take this opportunity to review safety messages with your students and encourage them to always report anything that doesn’t seem right to a school staff member. Please remember to regularly check your student’s backpacks and personal belongings to help prevent them from bringing dangerous objects to school.

Thank you for your support in keeping our students safe. As always, feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Principal Schuba
